Warranty

Headland Sea Kayaks – Warranty

All kayaks are warranted to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of 12 months commencing from the date of retail sale to the original customer.

The warranty is not transferable, the warranty does not apply to second hand kayaks.

Your original invoice is your proof of purchase and should be retained to prove the original purchase in the event of a claim.

What is covered:

If the damage is due to a manufacturing or materials defect, then Headland will repair or replace all or any parts of the kayak at their discretion.

As manufacturers Headland reserves the right to decide if a kayak will be covered under their warranty.

What is not Covered:

  • Normal wear and tear
  • Cosmetic blemishes
  • Damage due to improper use, modification, negligence or transport
  • Ex-Demo or Ex-rental kayaks are not covered
  • Transportation charges
  • Incidental damages to property or persons
  • Personal injury
  • Consequential damages

Warranty Procedure:

Headland will work through the dealer who originally sold you the kayak. To pursue a customer warranty claim, please contact the dealer as they are best placed to advise if you have grounds for a claim.

You will be asked to provide the dealer with the following:

  • Your name, address, telephone number & email address
  • A written description of the problem
  • A written description of what happened and contact details of any witnesses
  • Written reason/s why you feel it is a warranty problem
  • Timed and dated photograph of the kayak serial number
  • Timed and dated photographs of the damage/defect clearly showing the problem/s
  • Proof of purchase, original receipt and signed ‘Kayak Acceptance Form’

Please note:

Headland Kayaks cannot warranty that any kayak is unbreakable and they (in common with other manufacturers products) will break if allowed to collide with solid objects, rocks, reefs, the sea bed etc.

Kayaks are not designed to be dropped from any height onto any surface so care should be taken when tying to roof bars / racks both when loading and unloading.

This warranty should be read in conjunction with the ‘Care of your Kayak’ pages which detail best practice for the storage, carrying and maintenance of your kayak.

Construction Grades

Headland Kayaks use a variety of materials including high quality glass, carbon and kevlar fabrics and vinyl ester resins & gel coats to produce top quality, robust yet light weight composite kayaks.

Inuk Kayaks stock our range of sea kayaks in two construction grades, “Club HD” and “Performance HD”,  We believe that these constructions will meet the needs of a wide range of paddlers. Other construction specifications available to special order.  Our range of Adventure Racing and Touring kayaks are available to order in  “Club”   “Performance”  or  “Elite”  constructions.

All hulls and most decks are built using sandwich technology to ensure the strongest, stiffest structures, but at minimal weight.

All kayaks are built with the following features in common:

  • Top quality vinylester resins and vinylester gel coats.
  • Vacuum consolidated and heat cured laminates.
  • Multi-layered laminates using various weights of fabrics, with reinforcement precisely located at high load areas.
  • Fine outer skin of glass fibre for excellent adhesion to gel coat and for easy repair.
  • High tech core materials to produce stiff and strong sandwich structures.
  • “KajakSport” hatches and skegs.
  • “Smart Track” rudders (where fitted)
  • Ergonomically designed full footrest / steering systems (where fitted)

Club – Heavy Duty construction:

Our entry level robust, heavy duty specification. A strong and robust construction, suitable for Sea Kayak general usage applications, whether day paddling or expedition use.  This construction uses a mix of multi-layer glass fibre fabrics either side of the 2mm core. This sandwich technology produces much stronger, stiffer hull, weight for weight than a conventional monolithic laminate.  The hull uses a 2mm small cell core through out, the deck uses the same 2mm core in high load areas.  Additional reinforcements (extra layers of glass fabrics) are located in high load / high wear areas.

The vinyl ester gel coat is spray applied for a very even and controlled thickness. The gel coat is backed with a light glass fabric for good gel coat adhesion prior to the multi-layer glass fibre fabrics.  Vinyl ester resin system used to ensure resin / gel coat compatibility. Vinyl ester resins are used for their higher strength and toughness and better adhesion (particularly to Kevlar) compared with conventional polyester resins.

The laminates and core are vacuum consolidated, precisely controlled, to optimise fibre / resin ratios.  The hulls and decks are heat cured under vacuum which results in a tougher more durable laminate.

The hull / deck joins use both an internal and external tape seam.  All bulkheads are bonded and laminated in place. All hatches / compartments are air pressure leak tested prior to leaving the factory to ensure they are water tight.

  • Finisterre & Marin Trek sea kayaks
  • Raz 14 sea kayak.

Performance – Heavy Duty:

The optimum, “high tech” construction, maximising strength / weight ratio.  The “Performance HD” is our strongest construction, increased strength and durability but at a reduced weight compared to the “Club HD” construction.

Same methodology as “Club – Heavy Duty” construction, but with a variation in materials.  The same vinyl ester gel coat and resin systems, the outer laminates are multi-layer glass fibre fabrics but the inner laminates on both hull and deck are Kevlar.  The internal and external hull / deck tape joins are also Kevlar.  The deck of the “Performance HD” kayak is fully cored using the 2mm small cell core through out.  This produces a very strong and stiff kayak suitable for the most arduous of conditions.

  • Finisterre & Marin Trek sea kayaks
  • Raz 14 sea kayak.
  • Inuk Kayaks “stock” boats are “Performance HD” construction, if you are looking for a top quality composite sea kayak, we would recommend this construction.
  • Our stock “Performance HD” kayaks are all white, black trim. Other colour options available on special order.

Club:

A lighter weight version of the “Club HD” construction.  This is the entry level construction, suitable for our Touring class kayaks or the Adventure Racing kayaks where light weight is the priority over ultimate strength.

The same gel coat and resin systems used, lighter weight multi-layer glass fibre fabrics and the same sandwich technology and vacuum heat cured build method.

This is a light weight yet durable construction, perfectly capable of withstanding the wear and tear when sheltered water paddling or racing conditions.

  • Recommended construction for:
  • Canaveral touring kayaks
  • Nemo adventure racing kayaks.

Performance:

For those looking for a higher specification and lower weight than the “Club” construction.  The same build methodology but the “Performance” construction has an internal skin of Kevlar on both the hull and deck, to create a light weight yet robust kayak.  The choice if you are looking for a really light weight Touring kayak or a durable Adventure Racing kayak.

  • Recommended construction for:
  • Canaveral touring kayaks
  • Nemo adventure racing kayaks.

Elite:

“Elite” construction is our lightest specification, the ultimate “high tech” construction, optimising strength / weight ratio to produce the lightest kayaks, suitable for our Adventure Racing kayaks when you want maximum performance.

The same build methodology as the “Performance” construction, “Elite” construction has an external skin of Kevlar with an internal skin of carbon fibre, on both the hull and deck.  “Elite is the choice for the most serious paddlers.

  • Recommended construction for:
  • Nemo adventure racing kayaks.

Kayak Weight

Weights shown in the Specification section is for a kayak ready to be put on the water. This includes hatch covers, rudder & steering system, and / or skeg, deck fittings, lines etc. Weights may vary plus or minus 1 kg approx.

Paddler Weight Range

This is the suggested weight range of the paddler that the kayak will be suitable for. This is a guide and will depend upon the type of paddling and amount of gear to be carried.

Max Load

This is the suggested maximum suitable load for the kayak to carry, including the weight of the paddler and any additional gear carried. This is only intended as a guide, so additional load would be possible but performance and handling may suffer.
